In March, Glenn Duggan, who is the Chair of the Catisfield Gardening Club joined us to give a talk on History of Flowers in Art.
This fascinating talk started in ancient history, and how flowers were carved alongside hieroglyphics in Egypt. we then moved on to medieval times where flowers often held specific symbolic meaning, as well as for health and the start of medication.
In the modern era, we then saw the inspiring paintings from Albrecht Durer, Judith Leyster, Marie Sybil Merian, Pierre-Joseph Redoute, to them more modern painters like Georgina Totto O'Keeffe.
It was a brilliant talk, and our members really enjoyed it.
